In search of an expensive problem.

The window for solo founders is open right now.

  1. Marketing site: two hours. Feasibility spike: two more. Working SaaS: one good evening. iPhone app: less than a working day.
  2. Faster to ship than to ask permission.
  3. So the bottleneck moves up the stack. Not "can I build it?" — "is the problem expensive enough?"
  4. Expensive ≠ big. A €100k niche that closes in six months is invisible to a VC. It's a great year for one person.
  5. Average ships itself now. Standing out is the new craft.
  6. Hence the hunt: find the expensive ones — narrow, time-boxed, ignored — and build straight at them.

I'm a very specific kind of nerd.

I wanted to ELO-rank Taylor Swift's catalog. So I built the thing that does it.

either.fm shows two songs at a time. You pick the one you'd play again. The duels add up to a personal top 10. Currently a closed beta with 1,000 seats.

Two songs. One choice. No follower counts. No algorithm trying to be your friend.
